BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Former WKU tight ends, Jack Doyle and Deon Yelder, have both had very successful seasons this year in the NFL. Doyle recently played in the 2020 Pro Bowl and Yelder is about to play in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers. Success is nothing new to these two players because they were very productive in their time on the Hill.
Doyle recently appeared in the 2020 Pro Bowl and recorded three receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown. For the season, he totaled 43 receptions, 448 receiving yards, and added four receiving touchdowns. He had six receptions for 73 yards, which were season highs, and a touchdown against the Tennessee Titans. For his career, Doyle has 243 receptions and 2,176 yards receiving, which averages out to about a first down for every reception. Also, he has 18 career receiving touchdowns.
The Chiefs finished the regular season 12-4 and as the winners of the AFC West earned the No. 1 overall seed in the conference. Yelder appeared in nine games during the regular season for the Chiefs and hauled in three receptions for 50 yards. Yelder hauled in a reception for 11 yards in the AFC Divisional game against the Houston Texans. Yelder and the Chiefs are preparing to play in Super Bowl LIV against the San Francisco 49ers. If Yelder and the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, he will be the first active former WKU player to win a ring.
A former walk-on who did not receive a scholarship or tally any receiving statistics prior to his senior campaign, Yelder exploded onto the scene in 2017 to lead WKU with seven touchdown receptions and rank second with 52 catches and 688 yards. The Louisville native's yardage mark set a single-season record for receiving yards by a tight end, and his versatility allowed him to rack up 52 points, another single-season school record for a tight end.
Doyle hauled in 162 catches for 1,769 yards during his Hilltopper career, both of which stand as records by a WKU tight end. His 162 catches rank sixth all-time among all players. A First Team All-Sun Belt Conference selection in 2012, Doyle tallied 53 receptions for 566 yards and five touchdowns.
