Spring Game One Week Away as Hilltoppers Close Out Week Four

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the annual Red vs. White Spring Game just one week away, the WKU Hilltoppers closed out week four of spring practices with their second full team scrimmage, and first-year head coach Tyson Helton liked the competition on both sides of the ball.

"We got done what we really needed to get done," Helton said. "We worked a lot of situations today, and I thought our guys performed really well in them. The offense came out early with back-to-back scores, and the defense rebounded with a couple of stops and got the momentum back. I see a good football team starting to develop."

The day began with two long scoring drives by the offense, but after both sides settled into their rhythms, it was a back-and-forth affair. Under third-year defensive coordinator Clayton White, the defensive unit began to create critical third down stops and ended the day with consecutive interceptions to halt redzone chances by the offense.

"The defense came up with critical stops when we needed them the most," Helton added. "We went for it on fourth down a couple of times, and they were able to stop it. I thought overall, as a team, they played really well together."

The Hilltoppers will take the field for two more midweek practices before the Red vs. White Spring Game on Saturday, April 13. Kick is set for 2 p.m. and South Lawn will be filled with inflatables, balloon and face paint artists for families who want to come early and make it an all-day event.

WKU's Ticket Office will also be holding a "Select a Seat" event leading up to the spring game. Fans are encouraged to reach out to the ticket office HERE and a representative will be able to show fans their seats before purchasing them for the 2019 season.
