IRVING, Texas – Senior midfielder Nicole Roseland has been named the C-USA Defensive Player of the Week by the conference office following the final match of her career on The Hill, a 2-0 victory over Marshall on Senior Night last Friday evening.
Roseland, a two-time All-C-USA selection, earned the Defensive Player of the Week distinction for the second time in her career, previously claiming the accolades as a sophomore on Sept. 26, 2016. The award is also WKU's second Player of the Week honor this season after Ambere Barnett was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8.
Since becoming a member of C-USA in 2014, Roseland is just the third Lady Topper to earn multiple Player of the Week honors. Allison Leone captured a program-record four Goalkeeper of the Week awards (two in 2016, two in 2017) and Christina Bragado earned a pair of Defensive Player of the Week accolades in 2017.
Against the Thundering Herd, Roseland played the full 90 minutes in her holding midfielder role, pushing WKU to its third shutout of the 2018 season and holding Marshall to only a single shot on goal over the final 45 minutes of play. The Altamonte Springs, Fla., native also assisted on Barnett's match-winning goal in the first half.
Statistically, Roseland enjoyed the strongest season of her career with the Lady Toppers, totaling career-high marks in goals (two), assists (four) and total points (eight). She started all 17 matches for WKU and finishes her career ranked ninth in school history with 68 starts.
Roseland, along with fellow seniors Sarah Gorham, Hannah Cady and Megan Morris, was honored in a postmatch ceremony following the Marshall match on Friday evening for her accomplishments with the Lady Toppers.
