White, Yelder Showcase Hilltopper Football in Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. — Former WKU stars Mike White and Deon Yelder each contributed to scores while White stole the show at quarterback leading his South team to a 45-16 victory over the North in the 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl.

White drew the start for the South team and quarterbacked his team for the entirety of the first quarter, throwing the game's first touchdown pass and delivering a 10-3 lead at the end of the period.

The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native drew consistent praise from analysts Charles Davis and Mike Mayock, with Mayock adding of White, "I think, by far, he's been the most impressive skill player in this game so far."

White, who only played in the first quarter, finished the day completing 8-of-11 passes for 128 yards and a touchdown with a long pass of 63 yards to LSU wide receiver D.J. Chark. White's touchdown pass was a 14-yard completion to UCF tight end Tre'Quan Smith. His passer rating of 200.5 was the second-highest in the game. On the Hill, White posted quarterback ratings of 200 or higher six times.

Yelder saw his first action in the third quarter, primarily as a blocking tight end, and added to WKU's program point total in the game with a one-yard touchdown reception on the goal line. It was Yelder's lone target of the day, and as he has done for at each step so far during his senior campaign, the Louisville, Ky., native made the most of his opportunity.

With White's passing touchdown and Yelder's receiving touchdown, WKU was the only program in the Senior Bowl to have multiple players responsible for scores. WKU was the only program in the Commonwealth to have players participate in the game and the only program in Conference USA to be represented by multiple players.

Next up for White is the NFL Scouting Combine, held in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium, Mar. 2-5.
