IRVING, Texas – WKU Volleyball seniors Sydney Engle and Jessica Lucas have been named to the Conference USA Volleyball All-Academic Team, the league office announced Tuesday. Engle and Lucas are two of 13 student-athletes to be honored for their work in the classroom.
Both Lady Toppers have played in every set for WKU this season, helping the squad to a 27-3 record entering post-season play and the squad's fourth-straight regular season conference crown.
Lucas is a repeat honoree, landing on the All-Academic Team for the second-consecutive season. The Seymour, Ind., is also one of 10 finalists for the Senior CLASS Award in addition to a three-time first-team All-Conference selection. Lucas has racked up eight double-double showings this season and now owns the C-USA record for career weekly awards collected with 18. The offensive facilitator is studying exercise science and owns a 3.55 GPA during her time on The Hill.
Engle collects her first All-Academic Team nod, working to a 3.81 GPA in the classroom studying business administration. On the court, Engle is a two-time second-team all-conference honoree and has posted a pair of double-doubles on her senior campaign. The all-arounder owns a .344 hitting clip on the season, which ranks eighth across the league.
WKU will kick off C-USA Volleyball Championship play this Friday from Diddle Arena as the Lady Toppers take on No. 7-seeded Charlotte in a noon CT contest.
