BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Now just a few short days away, the Hilltoppers continued preparations for Saturday's home game against Vanderbilt which will include the task of stopping the top running back in the Southeastern Conference, junior Ralph Webb.
"They are a good, physical football team with the top running back in their conference," defensive coordinator Nick Holt said of Webb. "He's a good football player, and they have a big offensive line and good receivers. Statistically, these guys run the ball better than Alabama. Because they run the ball so effectively, their play-action is very good."
Webb was a third team All-SEC performer a year ago and has rushed for 377 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the season while averaging 125 yards per game. Defensively, the Hilltoppers have been led up front by tackles Omarius Bryant and Chris Johnson who will need to turn in their bests game yet to slow down Webb.
"(Webb) runs hard and has good pad level," Holt added. "He's not the biggest guy, but he's thick and he's tough. I'm sure he's strong in the weight room because he breaks tackles, spins off some things. I think he has good vision. They hide him pretty good with a lot of motions and shifting and getting guys out of your gaps."
Saturday's game is slated for a 3:30 p.m. CT kick off, and with tickets in high demand, gates to stadium will open two hours prior to kick off. As on Wednesday evening, fewer than 2,900 tickets remained for the game.
