IRVING, Texas - For the third-consecutive week, WKU junior Jessica Lucas was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday. Lucas capped off the third week of the season by earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Holiday Inn - University Plaza Hotel Invitational.
WKU's two-time All-American setter led the Lady Toppers to a 3-1 record over the past week with the lone loss coming to Michigan State out of the Big Ten. The Red and White picked up wins over Belmont, Southern Illinois and Cincinnati during the stretch with Lucas averaging 11.00 assists per set in the period.
In the past four matches, the Seymour, Indiana, native recorded double-double performances against both Southern Illinois and Michigan State, two teams that earned spots in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Lucas finished just one kill shy of her first career triple double in WKU's four-set victory over Southern Illinois. In that contest, Lucas recorded nine kills, 45 assists, 16 digs, two blocks and an ace to help the Lady Toppers take down the Salukis. Nine kills is a season-high outing for Lucas.
Over the past week, Lucas averaged 1.33 kills per set, 2.73 digs per set and 0.73 blocks per set in addition to her 11.00 kills per frame.
This marks the third Setter of the Week honor for Lucas in as many weeks as the accolade has been awarded during the 2016 season. During her career, Lucas has now earned the C-USA recognition eight times.
The Lady Toppers will have nearly a full week before their next match when the squad travels to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the Pittsburgh Invitational, WKU will take the court against Pittsburgh, Robert Morris and Lehigh on Friday and Saturday.
