KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- WKU Baseball (7-4) will play the final game of its four-game road trip on Tuesday when the Hilltoppers face Tennessee (7-3) at 5 p.m. CT at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Neither team has announced its starting pitcher ahead of the midweek game, which can be heard live in Bowling Green on ESPN 1450 AM and 102.7 FM and online at WKUSports.tv.
The Hilltoppers swept their first two midweek contests of the season, winning at Belmont, 10-4, on March 1 before shutting out Lipscomb, 6-0, at Nick Denes Field the following day. In its last 15 games that were played in the middle of the week, WKU has an 11-4 record, with three of those wins coming over SEC opponents in Mississippi State and two over in-state rival Kentucky.
Through the first 11 games of 2016, WKU has been one of the top hitting and scoring teams in Conference USA, ranking second in the conference in hits (127), third in batting average (.315) and runs (81) and fourth in slugging percentage (.442). There are five Hilltoppers in the lineup that are batting over .300 on the season, including Danny Hudzina with the second-best mark in C-USA at .510. Hudzina is also tied for the most hits in the NCAA with 25.
Sophomore Kaleb Duckworth has also been highly productive behind Hudzina in the lineup, ranking third in the conference in RBI (14), which is just one behind teammate Thomas Peter, and tying for sixth in total bases with Steven Kraft at 27. In the last week, Duckworth went 8-for-20 (.400) with nine RBI, five runs and two home runs in back-to-back games in the wins over Belmont and Lipscomb.
Tennessee enters the fixture after going 1-2 at the Keith LeClair Classic in Greensboro, North Carolina, with the lone win coming over the host East Carolina, 5-2. The Vols opened the year by taking two of three over Memphis before opening a five-game winning streak with triumphs over Grand Canyon, Saint Mary's, Central Michigan and Cincinnati. Preseason All-SEC First Team selection Nick Senzel leads Tennessee with a .425 batting average to go along with 17 hits and 17 RBI.
WKU will return home to host Albany for a three-game series over the next weekend, with the first game scheduled for Friday, March 11, at 3 p.m. CT.
