BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - After two practices in shorts, WKU got the pads on for the first time this spring, working through their third practice inside Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Following a week of practice, head coach Jeff Brohm was able to reflect on the progress his team has made as they work towards the fall and a season opener against Conference USA opponent Rice.
"I like the way the guys have been working," Brohm said. "I think they are into it. I think they understand we've got a lot of work ahead of us. It's an important spring. We're going to have some new guys so we have to get them some experience and a lot of reps."
Brohm has been able to get closer to the quarterback competition this week as quarterback coach Brian Brohm has been away from the team as his wife gave birth to their first child. Not only is a new nephew a welcome addition to the family, but working with the quarterbacks again was a welcome addition to the head coach's week.
"It's been fun – I know after the first practice, they didn't want to see me the next day," Brohm said jokingly of the quarterback room. "I was in there, picking up the slack a little bit. It's good for me to get back in there and hear more than one voice. We try to keep our quarterbacks engaged in meetings. I want them to talk and communicate. You've got to make them talk, call out certain things, and they've got to be able to understand it."
The Hilltoppers will practice from approximately 4-6 p.m., for every weekday practice and will hold one Saturday practice, April 9th which will begin at 10 a.m.
Spring practice concludes with the annual Red and White Game, set for April 23 at 1 p.m., inside Houchens-Smith Stadium. Admission and parking will be free.
