LEXINGTON, Ky. - WKU Volleyball climbed two more spots in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll to No. 21 as the Lady Toppers won their 14th- and 15th-straight matches over the weekend. The Red and White currently hold their best ranking since the first poll of the 2016 season, when they were voted No. 19.
Over the weekend, WKU played its third- and fourth-consecutive Conference USA matches on the road as the team headed to Marshall Friday night and swept a talented Thundering Herd squad before traveling down to Birmingham, Alabama, to sweep UAB. The Lady Toppers improved to 11-0 both in C-USA play and in away matches this season.
Offensively, WKU averaged a .393 offensive efficiency led by 29 kills of the hands of Rachel Anderson and Alyssa Cavanaugh for 4.83 kills per set. Amara Listenbee converted 11 of her 13 attacks into kills for a team-high .769 hitting percentage while Anderson followed with a .553 clip on 47 swings.
WKU handed the Thundering Herd its first home loss of the 2016 season in Friday night's sweep. Entering the contest, WKU sat in first in the league standings while Marshall owned a share of fourth place. Two days later, WKU headed to UAB for a rematch with the Blazers were the Lady Toppers picked up their fourth sweep in their last five matches. The Red and White also held UAB to its fewest points in a 25-point set this season when they defeated the Blazers 25-11 in set two on Sunday.
WKU will close regular-season action from its own E.A. Diddle Arena with three matches remaining on the docket. In the upcoming week, the Lady Toppers will take on Rice Friday night at 6 p.m. CT and then turn around and host Middle Tennessee in a 2:30 p.m. CT contest on Saturday.
