BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU added the fourth member of its 2016 signing class and second from Ashland Paul Blazer High School as the program announced the signing of running back Quinton Baker (Ashland, Ky.) to a National Letter of Intent on Monday.
Baker joins teammate Drew O’Bryan who signed with the Hilltoppers last week.
The 5-foot-8 speedster led all of KHSAA Class 4A in rushing and scoring during his senior campaign with 1,976 yards and 26 touchdowns, averaging 165 yards per game for coach Tony Love’s Tomcats. Baker’s nearest competitor for the rushing crown in Kentucky’s class 4A was over 300 yards behind him in as many games, while his 165 yards per game ranked tied for fifth in the state across all classes. Defensively, Baker also intercepted two passes and returned one for a score.
Baker is a three-star rated prospect and the No. 21 all-purpose running back in the nation by 247Sports.com which also tabs him as the No. 8 player in the state. Rivals.com and Scout.com both have Baker rated as a three-star prospect. Rivals lists Baker as the No. 19 all-purpose back in the nation and No. 4 player in the state while Scout has him as the state’s top running back prospect.
He is a two-time All-State selection by the Courier-Journal and All-State First Team selection by the Associated Press. Baker rushed for 6,234 yards and scored 86 touchdowns for his career. As a senior, Baker was one of nine finalists for Kentucky’s Mr. Football award. In the 2016 Border Bowl, Baker picked up Kentucky MVP honors. He tallied 98 all-purpose yards including a 75-yard touchdown reception.
Baker joins his teammate O’Bryan, defensive back Dee Cain (Caldwell County HS) and junior college defensive tackle Chris Johnson (Mississippi Gulf Coast CC) as the Hilltoppers’ fourth signee in the early signing period. National Signing Day 2016 is Wednesday, Feb. 3.
