BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Now just a week away, head coach Jeff Brohm and his Hilltoppers worked out in helmets and shorts on Thursday afternoon inside Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium for their opener against Vanderbilt.
The game, set for a 7 p.m. kickoff from Vanderbilt Stadium in Nashville, will be the first meeting between the school separated by a short stretch of Interstate 65, since 1938. It will be the first of 12 WKU games televised on national television this season.
"I think our guys are eager to play – I'm sure every team across the country is," Brohm said after practice. "Everyone has worked hard and put a lot of work into it. Now it's time to freshen things up, get ready to go, and show what you're all about."
The Hilltoppers will play the first of three Thursday contests this year when they take on the Commodores, which can present scheduling issues for a team, but Brohm noted that the Tops have a plan in place to get the maximum preparation time possible without deviating for the normal game week plan.
"Sunday will be a good, hard physical practice, like a Tuesday for us. The rest of the week will be very similar. We're right on schedule right now," Brohm said.
WKU will have a final practice of the week tomorrow before enjoying one day off on Saturday and coming back on Sunday.
