Cross Country season is fast approaching as WKU will take on some familiar courses in its six-meet schedule before hosting the 2015 Conference USA Championships on Halloween, Oct. 31.
The men's cross country team will open the season in Nashville, Tennessee, at the Belmont Opener on Sept. 5, while the women's squad starts the following week at the Forest Park Cross Country Festival in St. Louis on Sept. 11.
"Our cross country schedule will be a rather familiar one," said head coach Erik Jenkins. "We have competed on most of these courses over the last two years. Four of the most competitive meets on our schedule will be held in Kentucky, and they include the Conference USA and NCAA Division I National Championships."
After the men participate in the Commodore Classic on Sept. 19, the two squads will both take part in the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 3 in Louisville, Kentucky. A return trip to Louisville is planned on Oct. 17 for the NCAA Division I Pre-National event, with other WKU runners participating in the Frontrunner Invitational in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on the same day.
The Hilltoppers will serve as the host school for the conference championship for the first time since joining C-USA and first since the 2012 Sun Belt Championship was in Bowling Green. WKU placed both teams in the Top 5 last season at the C-USA Championship.
The NCAA Southeast Regional will be held in Charlottesville, Virginia, two weeks later on Nov. 13 before the NCAA Championships on Nov. 21 in Louisville.
