BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The WKU women's soccer team earned a Conference USA Sport Academic Award for the 2014-15 academic year, the league announced on Friday. The award is given to the Conference USA team with the highest overall GPA in each sport. WKU topped the women's soccer category with a 3.68 cumulative GPA.
Conference USA gives an award to each of the 17 conference-sponsored sports. Rice earned the Institutional Excellence Award for the highest overall GPA of all student-athletes. Seven Rice teams earned Sport Academic Awards as well.
The award adds to the academic success the Lady Toppers have seen off of the field in the 2014-15 academic year. WKU placed three student-athletes on the Conference USA All-Academic Team at the conclusion of the regular season last fall. Allie Auscherman earned first-team honors, while Iris Dunn and Caitlin Heese earned second-team. Auscherman was also named to the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District team. WKU placed 21 athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Eleven WKU soccer players received the Commissioner's Academic Medal for having a 3.75 GPA or better.
The Lady Toppers 2015 season begins on August 14 against Xavier in an exhibition match played at the WKU Soccer Complex. The first regular season game will be on August 21 when WKU hosts Tennessee Martin.
