BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The Lady Topper tennis team went on the road and lost to UT-Chattanooga on Friday, 4-0. WKU moves to 6-8 on the season, while Chattanooga improves to 13-2.
The Mocs jumped out to a quick start with a win in doubles at the No. 3. Claire Mulyadi and Katie Polk of Chattanooga defeated Gabby Crofford and Emily Przystawski, 8-2. Tereza Hejlova and Elpida Malamou tied the score with an 8-7 win at No. 2 against Kelsey Coots and Kaylene Chadwell. Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou were in a battle at the No. 1 with Kayla Jones and Samantha Caswell, but ultimately lost 8-7. The Lady Toppers lost the doubles point for only the sixth time this season.
With the 1-0 lead, Chattanooga only needed three wins in singles to clinch the match. Claire Mulyadi quickly defeated Emily Przystawski, 6-0, 6-0. Then, Alison Storie topped Gabby Crofford, 6-0, 6-3. To finish the match, Samantha Caswell defeated Elpida Malamou, 6-2, 6-1.
Tereza Hejlova made her season debut at No. 1 in singles. She lost her first set, 6-3. She was down 5-1 in the second set when the match was called. Emilia Granstrom played the No. 2 today and won her first set, 6-2. She and Kelsey Coots were tied, 1-1, in the second set when the match finished. Andreanna Christopoulou won her first set, 6-4, but did not play a second set.
The Lady Toppers finish the regular season with two matches next weekend. On Saturday, WKU will travel to Louisville to take on the Cardinals (10-9) at Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Lady Toppers will return home to face Lindsey Wilson (5-6) on Sunday at the WKU Tennis Complex at 2:00 pm.
