On Wednesday, WKU Football head coach Jeff Brohm took an hour to join Reddit's /r/CFB discussion board to talk about WKU and college football in general as a part of an AMA or, Ask Me Anything. Brohm joined the likes of Bobby Bowden, Kliff Kingsbury and Mike Leach in hosting one of the events in the subreddit, while other celebrities such as President Barack Obama, Bill Gates, Larry King and Stan Lee have also taken part.
Reddit, which claims to be the "Front Page of the Internet" is an online social networking and news website which boasts more than 174 million active users and divides itself into subreddits, better referred to as categories for discussion. The college football based subreddit is home to more than 120,000 active users.
Below are a handful of questions posed to the second-year head coach and his answers. The full thread can be found by clicking HERE
Q: Have you showed the team this yet? (Referencing Brohm's famous XFL video)
A: It didn't take them long to find out on their own and I've never lived it down since.
Q: What went through your mind during the final play of the Bahamas Bowl?
A: With steam coming out of my ears and fire out of my eyes, it was definitely a good thing that the pass was incomplete. Then I didn't have to go there.
Q: What's Big Red really like?
A: Smart, intelligent and likes to win. Loves to play to the crowd and that's what I like about Big Red
Q: Coach, I worked for you at UAB when you were here under Garrick McGee. I was wondering what your take on the UAB issue is, especially given your position at a school that nearly did the same thing and reversed their course, to great success.
A: I was certainly disappointed to see the UAB football shut down because I think it's an outstanding university. Some things you can't control though and I'm hopeful people have begun to move on and have made the best of it.
We were very fortunate to get two great men from UAB come to WKU to be a part of our program.
Q: After being an assistant to Bobby Petrino for so long do you feel like you modeled your game strategy after his when you became a head coach, or did you have different ideas that you thought could take the team to a higher level?
A: I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Petrino and was very fortunate to play around a ton of outstanding coaches in college and the NFL and I've tried to put into use everything I've learned from each and every one. Guys like Bill Walsh, Pete Carrol, Jim Mora, George Seifert, Tony Dungy, Herm Edwards, Howard Schnellenberger, Mike Shannahan, just to name a few.
Q: What made you want to stay at WKU after Petrino left?
A: The opportunity to be the head coach at a university that I love and believe in was a big one. And, I think we can put our place on the map in the future and continue to bring the program to new heights.
Q: What do you think is the next evolution of offenses?
A: Probably a lot like what you saw from the Patriots in the playoffs, splitting out the offensive linemen to spread the field and trying to make the five eligible guys unnoticeable and deceiving to the defense.
