WKU Grinds Out 4-3 Win at Lipscomb

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU women's tennis team went on the road and got a 4-3 win in Nashville, Tenn. on Tuesday where they faced the Lipscomb Lady Bisons. The Lady Toppers won all of their points in singles at the top-four spots. WKU improves their overall record to 6-6, while Lipscomb drops to 7-6 on the season.

The match started with the Lady Toppers losing the doubles point to Lipscomb after dropping matches at No. 2 and No. 3. Tereza Hejlova and Elpida Malamou faced Jenny Borck and Deahna Welcher at the No. 2 and were defeated, 8-5. Gabby Crofford and Madeline Phillips lost to Danielle Kinnen and Hannah Gamage, 8-2, at the No. 3. Emilia Granstrom and Andreanna Christopoulou did not finish their match against Laura Kent and Melissa Kromer.

In singles, WKU racked up wins at the top-four spots. Emilia Granstrom battled Hannah Gamage at the No. 1. Gamage took the first set, 6-1, but Granstrom fought back to win the second and third sets, 6-3, 6-4. Tereza Hejlova defeated Deahna Welcher in a tough match, 6-4, 6-4, taking the point at No. 2. Andreanna Christopoulou faced Laura Kent at the No. 3. Christopoulou won, 6-1, 6-1. At the No. 4, Elpida Malamou topped Melissa Kromer, 6-4, 6-1. Emily Przystawski and Gabby Crofford both suffered losses in singles.

The Lady Toppers will travel to Carbondale, Ill. on Friday to take Southern Illinois at 4:00 pm CT. The Salukis are currently 7-6 on the year.
