IRVING, Texas— For her brilliant performances in her first weekend in the circle for WKU, senior Miranda Kramer was named Conference USA Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Kramer was lights out in the opening weekend, as the senior allowed just four hits with 38 total strikeouts and did not surrender a single run. Kramer set her dominance in the circle early, tossing a 19-strikeout no-hitter at Troy, the first no-hitter of her career. Her 19 strikeouts set the school record for individual and team strikeouts in a game while ranking second-most in Conference USA history. Kramer threw WKU's eighth no-hitter in school history while it was the third no-hitter in head coach Amy Tudor's two years on The Hill.
Kramer opened the season with a double-digit strikeout effort against Buffalo, notching 11 versus the Bulls. With the help of her defense, the Iowa native allowed just eight baserunners in her three complete-game outings. It is the first C-USA weekly honor in Kramer's career.
WKU is back in action this weekend when the squad travels to Tallahassee, Fla., for the Unconquered Invitational. The Lady Toppers start the tourney on Friday, Feb. 13 with No. 8 Michigan and host No. 5 Florida State. Contests for WKU conclude on Saturday, Feb. 14 against No. 18 Nebraska and Georgia Tech.
