AVCA All-Region Teams
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- For the first time in program history, three members of the WKU volleyball team earned All-Region selections as Alyssa Cavanaugh, Jessica Lucas and Noelle Langenkamp were each named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) South All-Region Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The All-Region honors add to the numerous accolades the trio have already received, as all three were named to Conference USA's First-Team All-Conference. Lucas and Cavanaugh both took home All-Region honors in 2014 while this is Langenkamp's first honor of her career.
WKU has three of the 14 players honored in the South Region list. Cavanaugh, Lucas and Langenkamp make up three of the four C-USA student-athletes named to All-Region teams while that number extends to six when adding those selected as honorable mentions.
WKU now has 24 All-Region selections in program history with 15 Lady Toppers having earned the accolade.
A two-time Conference USA First Team selection, Alyssa Cavanaugh earned her second consecutive AVCA All-Region accolade as the sophomore led a potent Lady Topper offensive attack all season. Cavanaugh finished with team-highs in both total kills (400) and kills per set (3.28) for a WKU team that ranked in the top five nationally in team-hitting with a .294 percentage.
Named the 2015 C-USA Setter of the Year, Lucas had an outstanding sophomore season as the setter led the conference with an average of 11.20 assists per set and ranked second on the team with 2.54 digs per set. Lucas led the Lady Toppers to a C-USA Tournament championship as the Indiana-native earned MVP honors after finishing with a total of 138 assists (12.55/set), 22 killls (2.00/set) and 21 digs (1.91/set), five aces and 10 total blocks (0.91/set). Lucas led WKU on the year with 14 double-doubles.
Langenkamp finishes a stellar career on The Hill with her first All-Region honor as the senior produced both offensively and defensively all year for the Lady Toppers. The middle hitter was one of WKU's most consistent players as Langenkamp finished second on the team with 3.02 kills per set while she also led the team at the net with 101 total blocks (0.81/set). She recorded her 1,000th career kill against Southern Miss earlier this season. Langenkamp leaves WKU as one of the best blockers in program history as the Cincinnati-native ranks fourth with 396 total blocks.
WKU finished the 2015 season with a 32-4 overall record as the Lady Toppers reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. WKU's 32 victories falls just one shy of the program record of 33 reached in 2002 and 2012.
