- Captains for WKU were Nick Holt, Forrest Lamp, Gavin Rocker and Wonderful Terry. WKU won the toss and received. The attendance for the game was 21,712.
- WKU finishes the season 12-2, which are the most wins in the FBS era and most since the 2002 National Championship team went 12-3.
- This was the second bowl victory in program history for the Hilltoppers.
- WKU has now won 16-straight games against teams from the Group of Five.
- WKU becomes just the fifth team in Conference USA history to win 12 games in a season. The league record is 13, accomplished twice.

- With the 45 points scored by WKU, it surpassed last season's record for most points scored in a season as the Hilltoppers finished with 620 in 2015.
- The Hilltoppers used 24 unanswered points to storm back from the 14-point deficit.
- The 28 points in the third quarter tied for the most in a quarter for WKU this season and were the most in any third quarter of the year.

Player Notes
- Brandon Doughty became the first player in school history and third player in C-USA history to throw for 5,000 yards in a single season as he pushed his season mark to 5,055. He finished the game with 461 yards on 32-of-44 passing and added three touchdowns.

- Doughty finished his career throwing for a touchdown pass in 28 straight games, which is the longest active streak in the FBS.
- Over the last two seasons, Doughty has thrown 97 touchdowns, which are the most in FBS history in consecutive seasons.
- For his career, he finished ranked 16th in FBS history in passing yards (12,855) and threw the 15th-most touchdowns with 111.
- Doughty claimed the MVP award for this game and the C-USA Championship game.
- Taywan Taylor caught seven passes for 104 yards in the game, moving into third in WKU history with 155 career receptions.
