BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After a day of travel and welcome events, No. 25 WKU got back to work with their first practice in Miami ahead of Monday's Miami Beach Bowl.
WKU (11-2) practiced for roughly two hours Friday morning at Orange Bowl Field at Moore Park in Miami, just minutes off the beach, as the HIlltoppers prepare for a talented South Florida (8-4) team.
"It was good. We were a little sluggish in beginning," said Conference USA MVP quarterback Brandon Doughty of the first practice of the weekend. "But, I thought we focused in towards the end and really got the job done."
Doughty is one of 23 seniors playing their final game for the Hilltoppers in WKU's second consecutive bowl trip and wants to go out with the group's 35th win since 2012.
"I got emotional on (Houchens-Smith Stadium's Feix Field)," Doughty added. "Realizing that after six years these are your final college practices, it's pretty surreal. To me, (our legacy) means nothing if we don't win this football game. It's been an unbelievable run, but to get 12 victories, win a conference championship, and get bowl victories in back to back years would be huge for our program."
The Road to the Miami Beach Bowl is presented by WKU's School of Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport, providing quality education while always keeping students first.
