OMAHA, Neb. -- For the second consecutive season, WKU volleyball's sophomore duo of Alyssa Cavanaugh and Jessica Lucas was named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Honorable Mention All-Americans on Wednesday.
After earning AVCA All-South Region awards earlier this month, Cavanaugh and Lucas give the WKU program 15 AVCA All-America selections since 2005. Senior Noelle Langenkamp also received AVCA All-South Region honors.
Along with the AVCA honors, Cavanaugh and Lucas completed stellar sophomore campaigns on The Hill, as both were named to Conference USA's First-Team All-Conference for the second consecutive year. Lucas was the program's first player to be named C-USA's Setter of the Year and also earned MVP honors of the C-USA Tournament.
Cavanaugh capped a tremendous sophomore season on The Hill with outstanding numbers as she led the team with 3.28 kills per set with 400 total kills. Her total kills have her ranked in the top 150 in the nation while she helped WKU rank in the top 25 with 14.25 kills per set. Cavanaugh recorded a team-high 3.12 kills per set in C-USA action, as she posted double-digit kills in 10 of 16 matches, including a season-high 19 against Rice. Cavanaugh is also a standout defensively, as the Louisville, Ky., native had 68 digs and 45 total blocks, including 21 block solos.
Lucas had WKU's trademark offense clicking once again in 2015, guiding the team to rank 6th in the nation with a .294 hitting percentage. Lucas led C-USA with 11.18 assists per set, as she totaled 1,397 total assists. Originally from Seymour, Ind., Lucas ranked 25th nationally in assists per set while the team was 14th with 13.52 assists per set. Named C-USA Setter of the Week three times this season, Lucas led the Lady Toppers with 14 double-doubles on the year. She had four 50+ assist outings in C-USA play, including a career-high 56 against North Texas.
