BOCA RATON, Fla. -- No. 24 WKU volleyball earned its third consecutive sweep Sunday afternoon as the Lady Toppers recorded a straight-set victory over Florida Atlantic (25-13, 25-20, 28-26) in order to keep their one-game lead atop the Conference USA standings as the league's regular season rapidly winds down.
The familiar duo of Noelle Langenkamp and Alyssa Cavanaugh led WKU offensively as both hitters recorded double-digit kill performances. Langenkamp notched 13 kills on .387 hitting followed by Cavanaugh who added 11 as the Lady Toppers hit .320 on the match with 49 kills on 122 attacks.
Sophomore Sydney Engle, whose timely kill and ace in the third set allowed the Lady Toppers to escape with the sweep, fell just shy of a double-double with 9 kills (on .389 hitting) and 9 digs for the Lady Toppers. Senior Haley Bodway continued her productive play as of late, slamming down eight kills on .316 hitting.
Setter Jessica Lucas also recorded a near-double-double performance with a match-high 38 assists to go with eight digs and five kills on .400 hitting.
Defensively, WKU held FAU (16-10, 8-6 C-USA) to .143 hitting led by junior Georgia O'Connell who recorded a match-high 19 digs on the afternoon. Senior Rachel Engle finished was the other Lady Topper to finish with double-digit digs as the veteran added 11 on the contest. The Lady Toppers held a slim, 8-7 blocking advantage over the Owls at the net.
With a spot in the C-USA Tournament solidified, WKU (26-3, 13-1 C-USA) returns to E.A. Diddle Arena this week to close out the 2015 regular season with a pair of conference matches.
The Lady Toppers are set to host Marshall at 6 p.m. CT Thursday and will close with a noon CT match against UTEP Saturday afternoon.
