BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Hosting the Conference USA East Division Championship Game this Friday, WKU continued its preparations on Wednesday as the Hilltoppers get set to play the defending conference champion Marshall at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
The all-important contest will kickoff on Feix Field at 11 a.m. CT on Friday, with the game to be aired nationally on FS1. The game has been designated the annual "BLACKOUT" game as fans can use the promo code "BLACKOUT" when purchasing tickets online to get a seat for just $10, and official t-shirts are also available at The WKU Store.
With the winner of this conference showdown moving on to the C-USA Championship Game, both teams will have to cope with the pressure that comes with a game of this magnitude, which is something WKU head coach Jeff Brohm talked about with the media after practice.
"I think we've handled the pressure well all year," said Brohm. "Yes, it's a big game and our guys understand that, but we've got to treat it just like any other game. With that being said, this is the championship game to win the East side, and we need to do everything in our power to win."
Although Marshall does not have its quarterback from last season's 67-66 thriller, freshman Chase Litton has had a very productive debut season for the Herd, and Brohm spoke about the challenges he brings to a defense.
"He's a good player. You can see the improvement he's made all year. He's really an excellent thrower. He's tall. He can see the field. He's done a very good job with their offense, and I think he's got a bright future there and many years to play. He's a very productive player for them," Brohm said.
It will also be Senior Day on The Hill as WKU recognizes the contributions of 23 seniors who have turned the program they entered from a fledgling FBS program in transition, in the midst of a 26-game losing streak, into a consistent winner with bowl aspirations every year. Since 2012, WKU has won 32 games, making this the most successful senior class since the 2004 class won 38 games.
