BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – As WKU moves closer to their regular season finale and the Conference USA East Division Championship Game against Marshall, the team worked out for two hours on Tuesday on Feix Field inside Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
Friday's game will be aired nationally on FS1 at 11 a.m., n=and has been designated the annual "BLACKOUT" game. Fans can use the promo code "BLACKOUT" when purchasing tickets online to get a seat for just $10. Official "BLACKOUT" t-shirts are also available at The WKU Store.
Last season's 67-66 overtime thriller in Huntington created a new rivalry between the Hilltoppers and Thundering Herd, and with both teams entering the game at 9-2, the 2015 matchup could be just as memorable.
"Marshall's a very good team, and they've had a week off to prepare for us," offensive line coach Neil Callaway said following practice. "They are very physical. They bring enough pressure to make you ex-ecute and do things (that don't allow you to make a mistake). It will be a big challenge for us."
In what has the makings of an annual "Black Friday" game for both programs, last season's game was the most watched game of the regular season in C-USA, and for secondary coach Mike Cassity, that exposure is something both programs can build from and look forward to.
"It couldn't be any better. Day after Thanksgiving, everyone is going to be watching the game, and it's two great programs," Cassity said. "They are like they've been since I coached there. They are going to run the ball, be in the one-back set. They have extremely good receivers and a big, physical offensive line."
It will also be Senior Day on The Hill as WKU recognizes the contributions of 23 seniors who have turned the program they entered from a fledgling FBS program in transition, in the midst of a 26-game losing streak, into a consistent winner with bowl aspirations every year. Since 2012, WKU has won 32 games, making this the most successful senior class since the 2004 class won 38 games.
