BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- No. 24 WKU volleyball recorded its fifth consecutive sweep Sunday afternoon as the Lady Toppers concluded its 2015 regular season by capturing the program's first outright Conference USA regular season championship with a straight-set victory over UTEP (25-17, 25-11, 26-16) on Senior Day at E.A. Diddle Arena.
"At this point in my career, I value regular season championship as much as anything because I know how hard they are to achieve," said head coach Travis Hudson. "Having to be good week after week in a really tough league is difficult to do so this feels great and I'm really proud of the team."
Senior Noelle Langenkamp shined in her final match as a Lady Topper in Diddle Arena as the veteran led WKU with a match-high 13 kills on .571 hitting. Sophomore Alyssa Cavanaugh had a career day for the Lady Tops as the outside hitter recorded a career-high .750 hitting percentage after laying down 12 kills on just 16 attacks with no errors. Freshman Rachel Anderson added eight kills for WKU off .636 hitting while senior Haley Bodway added five in her final home match.
Setter Jessica Lucas fell just shy of a double-double as the sophomore finished with a match-high 33 assists to go with nine digs. Junior Georgia O'Connell also added nine digs as WKU held UTEP () to .114 hitting on the afternoon.
The senior class of Langenkamp, Bodway and Rachel Engle finishes their home career with an astounding 52-3 record in E.A. Diddle Arena.
"Winning is all they have known since they've been here," Hudson said. "They've played four years of volleyball in this building and have only lost three times, that's a tremendous accomplishment. They're great kids and I'm very proud of them."
WKU (28-3, 15-1 C-USA) returns to action next weekend as the Lady Toppers are the top overall seed in the 2015 Conference USA Tournament to be held on UTSA's campus in San Antonio, Texas, from Friday, Nov. 20-22. The Lady Topper's first round opponent is yet to be determined.
