BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- After a four-match road swing, 24th-ranked WKU volleyball returns to E.A. Diddle Arena Thursday evening as the Lady Toppers are set to host Conference USA-foe Marshall at 6 p.m. CT.
WKU (26-3, 13-1 C-USA) comes into the contest with the Thundering Herd riding a three-match winning streak with all three victories coming in straight-sets. This past weekend, WKU went 2-0 in the Sunshine State after earning straight-set victories over FIU (25-18, 25-21, 25-15) and Florida Atlantic (25-13, 25-20, 28-26).
Collectively, the Lady Toppers continue to lead Conference USA in both team hitting percentage and opponent hitting. Nationally, WKU ranks 8th with a .288 team-hitting clip and 12th in opponent hitting as WKU has allowed its foes just .150 hitting on the year.
Marshall (15-12, 6-8 C-USA) comes into Thursday's match with the Lady Toppers having dropped four of its last five matches, including four-straight. This past weekend, the Thundering Herd were swept by both Southern Miss and Rice. Marshall's last victory came in four sets against Middle Tennessee State on Oct. 21.
Offensively, Marshall is led by junior Cassie Weaver, who has recorded team-highs of 341 total kills and 3.38 kills per set so far this season. As a team, Marshall is hitting .197 on the year led by junior Ally Kiekover's .394 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Kayla Simmons leads the Thundering Herd with an average of 9.33 assists per set.
Defensively, Marshal is holding its opponents to .193 hitting as junior Allie Kellerman paces the team with 4.71 digs per set while senior middle blocker Ashley Arnold leads the charge at the net, averaging 0.82 blocks per set.
Thursday's contest between the Lady Toppers and Thundering Herd will be the second meeting this season between the two teams. WKU opened conference play by capturing a four-set victory at Marshall on Sept. 23. Senior Noelle Langenkamp led the way with a team-high 13 kills while Rachel Anderson added 11 as the Lady Toppers hit .325 as a team on the match.
With a victory over the Thundering Herd Thursday, WKU will capture at least a share of the regular season C-USA championship. The Lady Toppers shared the 2014 regular season title with UTSA in the program's first season as a conference member. Marshall is currently tied with Middle Tennessee for the eighth and final spot in the Conference USA tournament.
