BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The WKU women's soccer team is set to face North Texas in the first round of the Conference USA Championship on Wednesday at 10 AM (CT) in Miami, Fla. The Mean Green are the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament after winning the regular season conference title, going 8-1-1 in conference play this season. The No. 8 Lady Toppers earned a spot in the tournament with a 4-3-3 conference record.
"We are excited for the opportunity to compete in postseason play for the 15th consecutive year of our program," commented head coach Jason Neidell. "We feel that we are playing our best soccer of the season right now, and we look forward to testing ourselves against the regular season champions in North Texas. It's been a great rivalry over the years."
WKU is 7-11-2 all-time against North Texas after years of battles in the Sun Belt Conference with the Mean Green. The Lady Toppers and North Texas did not meet this season, but faced off last year in Denton, where the Mean Green won 4-0.
The Championship is hosted by Florida International at the FIU Soccer Stadium. All four matches of the quarterfinals will be played on Wednesday. Semifinals are to be held on Friday and the championship on Sunday. The first two rounds of the tournament will be streamed on the Conference USA Digital Network and the championship will be broadcast on Fox Sports Networks.
