BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU Soccer junior Caitlin Hesse was named a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection, the organization announced Thursday. Hesse is one of four midfielders making the cut on the 15 person team representing District II.
Hesse holds a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a Biology major. She is also one of four WKU Soccer players that is a member of the WKU Honors College. The Atlanta, Ga. native earned All-Conference Academic Second Team honors last season as well as receiving the Conference USA Commissioner's Academic Medal in the 2014-15 school year.
The honor makes Hesse the 15th Lady Topper to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors in the program's 15 year history. Thirty-six total WKU players have received All-District of All-Region academic honors under head coach Jason Neidell.
Hesse will now be featured on the Academic All-American ballot. Voting for the All-American team will be opened on Nov. 2.
The junior is a force for WKU in the midfield earning starting nods in all 18 games this season. Hesse leads the team in assists with four on the season and has taken the second most shots on the team.
Hesse and the Lady Toppers are awaiting final matches in Conference USA to play out to know their fate in the postseason. The top eight teams in conference standings earn a trip to Miami, Fla. to compete in the Conference USA Championship next week. WKU currently sits at 6th place with 15 points, but with 12 matches still to be played this weekend the Lady Toppers must wait to know the final standings.
