CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- WKU recorded its 12th sweep on the year and extended its current winning streak to 14 matches Friday evening as the Lady Toppers defeated Charlotte (5-14, 2-6 C-USA) in straight sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-21).
After capturing the opening set, 25-19, WKU took Charlotte's best shot in the second stanza as the 49ers raced out to a 9-2 advantage to start the set.
WKU recovered in fine fashion, however, as the Lady Toppers finished the set on a 19-10 run as WKU edged the home team, 26-24, in order to go into intermission with a 2-0 lead on the match.
The third set was close throughout but the Lady Toppers prevailed, 25-21, in order to record the sweep on the evening.
Senior Noelle Langenkamp continued her hot hitting as the veteran once again led the Lady Topper attack, finishing with a match-high 12 kills on .476 hitting. Freshman Rachel Anderson and sophomore Alyssa Cavanaugh each added 10 for the Lady Toppers. As a team, WKU finished with a .246 hitting percentage.
Defensively, senior Rachel Engle led with 10 digs as the Lady Toppers held the 49ers to .137 hitting on the match. The trio of Georgia O'Connell, Kaelin Grimes and Rachel Scott each added nine.
No. 22 WKU (20-2, 7-0 C-USA) returns to action with a Sunday showdown at North Texas. First serve between the Mean Green is set for noon CT at the UNT Volleyball Center.
