IRVING, Texas--Freshman Jessica Lucas was named Conference USA's Setter of the Week after her efforts last week in WKU's five wins, including an undefeated weekend at the University Plaza/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational.
Lucas had a breakout week for WKU, totaling 175 assists for a 10.29 average, as she helped the Lady Toppers hit .255 in their five wins. The freshman was named to the University Plaza/Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational All-Tournament Team, dishing out 146 assists and guiding WKU to a .271 hitting clip in the team's 4-0 weekend. The Indiana product recorded the first double-double of her collegiate career with 30 assists and 18 digs against Incarnate Word, while eclipsing the 40+ assists mark twice with 40 in a win at Missouri State and 42 against Missouri State. She also played a big part in the other facets of the game with 49 digs, five service aces and 20 kills on the week.
The honor is the first of the newcomer's career as well as the first weekly award given to WKU volleyball since joining C-USA.
The Lady Toppers travel to Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday to face Lipscomb at 6:30 p.m. CT before hosting their annual home tournament this weekend with Purdue, Austin Peay and Western Michigan coming to Bowling Green.
