WKU DB Rico Brown talks about WKU's second scrimmage
WKU QB Brandon Doughty breaks down the offenses' big day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football closed out its first week of two-a-days and second overall week of fall camp with a closed scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Houchens-Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
The Hilltoppers set 18 school records on the offensive side of the ball in 2013 and showed why they are primed for another high-powered campaign during their second scrimmage of the fall. Led by senior quarterback Brandon Doughty, WKU’s offense continually moved the chains and found the end zone while prepping the defense for Bowling Green’s fast paced attack that heads to the Hill on Aug. 29.
“Our offense stepped up pretty well and our playmakers made plays, which has to happen” head coach Jeff Brohm said afterward. “Our line played well and we have a big tough running back, who when you get the ball is very effective.”
“I thought we were really crisp and that was the key going into the scrimmage,” said Doughty. “We all came out there and competed every single down.”
WKU will have the day off Sunday to rejuvenate their bodies and participate in the annual Fan Fest celebration, set for 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Knicely Convention Center in Bowling Green. The entire team as well as head coach Jeff Brohm will be on-hand until 4 p.m. signing autographs and taking pictures will all fans.
Near the conclusion of the event, Brohm will do his part in the fight against ALS, accepting WKU head baseball coach Matt Myers' challenge in the popular 'Chillin for Charity' campaign, meant to raise awareness of the disease better known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.'
The Hilltoppers will return to the gridiron to begin their final week of fall camp with a double session on Monday. After two weeks of open practices the remainder of WKU’s sessions will be closed to the public.
