BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The day began before sunrise with temperatures just above freezing in Bowling Green and ended at a beachside cookout in the Bahamas as WKU enjoyed their travel day to the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Saturday.
"We couldn't be happier," said head coach Jeff Brohm. "This is a premier destination. Our team, our fans, our families are excited to finally getting here and we are looking forward to having a great time."
The Hilltoppers spent the majority of their afternoon acclimating themselves to the massive resort that is Atlantis, learning where meeting rooms, locker rooms, player's lounges, and of course, food and water slides were located. In the evening, both teams and travel parties took part in the Welcome Reception on the Royal Deck, surrounding by luxurious pools and beaches.
The importance of the trip, however, has not been lost on the team which is seeking its first FBS bowl victory.
We're really excited about playing here, getting better and trying to focus on the game - I think that's important," said quarterback Brandon Doughty. "There's a lot of distractions in the Bahamas. We want to have fun with it, but we understand why we are here - to play a football game."
WKU will hit the practice field for the first time on Sunday morning, going through a practice in shoulder pads at a speed typical for a Wednesday practice of a normal game week. It all leads up to a Christmas Eve kickoff at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN.
