BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Sporting a 30-5 overall record and claiming the Conference USA Tournament Championship last weekend, the WKU volleyball team moved into the top 25 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national poll, holding at No. 24 as released by the organization.
The Lady Toppers also moved up 10 spots in the NCAA RPI, ranked No. 32 in the latest installment.
For the first time this season, WKU broke into the top 25, receiving 95 points from the poll voters. It's the seventh-straight week that WKU has seen its name in the poll, receiving votes during the previous six weeks
It's the eighth time this season that WKU is a team among the nationally ranked. WKU has either received votes or ranked in the AVCA top 25 at least one time over each of the last four seasons. WKU's highest ranking came in 2013 at No. 16 while the team spent 14-consecutive weeks in the top 25 over the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
WKU's move up to No. 32 in the RPI also puts it at its highest ranking in that poll this season as well. WKU holds an 11-5 record against the top 150 while its five losses this season come to teams ranked in the top 75. WKU's best win comes against No. 31 Lipscomb, as the Lady Toppers swept the Lady Bisons in Nashville in early September.
With its ticket to the NCAA Tournament punched, the team will now await its fate until the NCAA Selection Show on Sunday, Nov. 30. Hilltopper Nation is invited to join the Lady Toppers at 6-4-3 Sports Bar in downtown Bowling Green for a watch party beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT. Autographs will be available throughout the night while free parking can be found at Hitcents Park Plaza Garage. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
The 2014 WKU volleyball season is being presented by the United States Marines. This season, the Marines and WKU Athletics are working together to promote the outstanding athletic and academic achievements of our female student-athletes.
