BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Riding a two-game winning streak and searching for bowl eligibility for the fourth-consecutive season, WKU Football began its preparations for a Senior Day showdown against UTSA Tuesday evening at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium.
The Hilltoppers (5-5, 2-4 C-USA) welcome in a Roadrunner squad that has held four teams under 20 points this season and ranks 35th nationally in total defense by holding opponents to 353 yards per game. Saturday's game is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff on Fox Sports Network with Tim Neverett and Brian Baldinger on the call.
Eighteen Hilltopper seniors will suit up for their final home game at Smith Stadium, looking to end their careers with a fourth-straight home win.
Among those seniors is redshirt senior offensive lineman Cam Clemmons, who will make his 42nd career start on Saturday. Clemmons has anchored the line for some of the best offenses in program history, including this year's unit that is just 17 points shy of setting the all-time scoring record. He and his fellow linemen paved the way for 383 rushing yards against Army last week but he told the local media Tuesday that the Tops will have their hands full with a physical UTSA front this week.
"The defensive line is very athletic. It will be a challenge for me and Forrest (Lamp) blocking their ends. Both of their ends are very, very good," said Clemmons. " (Their) three technique and one technique are both physical guys so it's probably the best defensive line we've played all year but it's a good challenge for us."
Clemmons and his fellow 17 seniors will be recognized during a pregame ceremony Saturday morning before playing their final game in Bowling Green.
"It's crazy how fast it's come," said Clemmons. "I was kind of reminiscing today, looking back to when I first started playing. These four years have flown by. I'm looking forward to (this weekend). I'm enjoying every day with these guys and taking advantage of the time I have left."
The Hilltoppers will return to the gridiron Wednesday to continue their work for UTSA, who snapped a three-game losing skid last Thursday against Southern Miss.
