Opening Statement
"We played well in the first half and the second half - bottom line is we got beat. The other team played better, found ways to make plays and we did not. We've had a lot of close games and this one was just like them. It's a disappointing loss for us because I felt like we needed to win the game. That's on all of us - a team loss. We'll move on from it, try to learn from it and go from there."
On defensive adjustments
"It was disappointing that they did make some plays. They were able to get some quick strikes and get some touchdowns. When we didn't come out in the second half and take the drive down and score, it was disappointing because we wanted to increase the lead. It didn't happen and bam, they were right back in there. They got the momentum going and they obviously built on it found a way to win."
On UAB slowing down offense in second half
"I thought we played well in the first half. They tried to press us up but we found ways to make some plays. In the second half, Leon Allen was out and we got `Ace' Wales and Joe Brown going. I wanted to start the first drive running the ball. They played us soft coverage the first three plays and we didn't get the first down running. That was disappointing. That hurt us."
"Then they came back the next series with soft coverage again and we didn't execute. Then once they got the lead they manned us up with two high safeties and dared us to run the ball. We didn't find a way to execute."
On defensive inconsistencies
"We play well at times. We give up a lot of big plays that hurt us. Right now, obviously we don't have a good answer for it. We wanted to play well in the second half and it is what it is. We'll go back and look at it as hard as we can. They had a good runner who ran strong. They had a quarterback that made some plays with his feet and they threw the ball deep on us. We need to play better."
On refs not calling potential offsides on WKU's final drive
"I couldn't tell for sure. Our offense said they did. We were going to try and draw them offsides and if they didn't we were going to call a timeout. When they do jump, our offense - we work on snapping the ball and taking a free play. It didn't work for us."
On Anthony `Ace' Wales performance
"I think he played well at times. He's a guy we wanted to get more looks. He's very good in open space. In the second half a few times we ran a fullback with him and I don't think he is effective that way. We have to find ways to get him in space, let him use his speed. Leon (Allen) is a bigger back that can do both so those are things we'll try and do with him. I think he showed that if he's in open space and has some room, he can make plays."
On defensive inconsistencies
"We play well at times. We give up a lot of big plays that hurt us. Right now, obviously we don't have a good answer for it.

Redshirt senior DB Cam Thomas and redshirt sophomore RB Anthony Wales.
On getting better play out of defense
Thomas: "We just have to continue to improve each week. I know we have a bye week but we are going to treat it like a game week and continue to read our keys and watch this film to see how we can do better in the second half. We've got to be a four-quarter team and not just play two quarters. We've got the guys to do it. We're playing hard, we just have to finish games. That is the biggest thing for us right now."
On challenges of defending UAB
Thomas: "Like any other team they just caught us in spots at different times during the game. We weren't there when we were supposed to be. It's all on our defense, a mistake at different points during the drive where guys weren't where they were supposed to be. We had a lot of missed tackles. We didn't show up this game but I'm positive these guys hurt right now and they're ready to get back and do what they came here to do."
On refs not calling a potential offsides on UAB in WKU's final drive
Wales: "The position I was in, it kind of looked like he came over but that's what they're paid to do and they didn't see it so we've got to live with the next play."
On offensive struggles in second half
Wales: "They did what any other defense does, adjust at halftime. I feel like everything was on us. I'd say we came out a little more flat than we usually do. They came out ready to play. We tried to pick it up at the end but obviously we fell short."
