IRVING, Texas - WKU volleyball senior Heather Boyan earned her second Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honor on Monday after leading WKU to a pair of dominant wins over the weekend, as announced by the league office.
Boyan continues to be a major factor at the net for WKU, totaling 13 blocks over the weekend for an average of 1.86 blocks per set. The Munster, Ind., native notched five blocks in a sweep of FIU, while putting up eight blocks, including three solos, in the win against Florida Atlantic. She has now posted five or more blocks this season in eight games, including six during conference play. Boyan ranks in the top 10 of block solos, block assists and total blocks in WKU's career records, as she has 101 blocks for the season.
Boyan's offensive output was also tremendous with 25 kills, good for 3.57 per set, as she recorded just two attack errors in 49 swings to hit a .469 clip. Against FIU, Boyan hit .636 with 14 kills while putting up another double-digit kill effort against one of the league's top defenses in FAU with 11 kills. Over the last five games, the senior has combined for just two attack errors
With the award, it marks WKU's sixth on the season, which ties UTSA for the league lead.
The Lady Toppers are on the road the next two weekends, first hitting UAB on Friday, Oct. 31 with a 7 p.m. CT first serve. The following weekend will be a longer road trip, as the team goes to Southern Miss on Friday, Nov. 7 before heading to Marshall on Sunday, Nov. 9.
