BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Football assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Jeff Brohm has been announced as a member of the 2014 class of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. The announcement was made Sunday in Lexington by KHSAA commissioner Julian Tackett.
The 11 members in this year’s class will be the 27th inducted into the Dawahares/KHSAA Hall of Fame, and consists of former high school coaches, athletes, officials, administrators and contributors. The Class of 2014 will be inducted in ceremonies scheduled for Sunday, April 27, 2014, at the Lexington Convention Center. The induction of the 11-member Class of 2014 will bring the total number of individuals honored to 423.
Brohm enjoyed a prolific high school career at Louisville’s Trinity High School. The three-sport athlete made his biggest impact on the football field where he earned All-District, All-Region, All-State accolades and was named Kentucky Mr. Football in 1988 after capping off an undefeated season by leading the Shamrocks to the Class 4A State Championship. He passed for 1,707 yards with 20 touchdowns as a senior, while rushing for 602 yards and 12 more scores, helping him earn Bobby Dodd Back of the Year and Atlanta Touchdown Club Back of the Year honors. He is one of two players to have their football uniform number retired by the St. Matthews area high school alongside his younger brother, Brian Brohm.
Brohm is currently in his first year at WKU after most recently serving as an assistant coach at UAB where he served as the Blazers’ offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Brohm has also coached at FAU, Illinois and his alma mater, Louisville.
Brohm was one of four family members to earn a gridiron letter from Louisville. He wrapped up his four-year collegiate career as one of the most prolific offensive players to wear Louisville’s jersey. As a three-year starter for the Cards, Brohm ranks among the all-time leaders for passing yards, touchdown passes, completions, total offense and completion percentage. A Louisville native, he was voted the team’s MVP in both 1992 and 1993, and always will be remembered for a gritty performance in leading Louisville to an 18-7 victory over Michigan State in the 1993 Liberty Bowl, one of Schnellenberger’s six career bowl victories. Playing with two steel pins and one steel plate in the index finger of his throwing hand, Brohm completed 19-of-29 passes for 197 yards and a touchdown, all while playing in 20-degree temperatures and freezing rain to earn the game’s MVP award.
As a student-athlete at Louisville, Brohm played two seasons of baseball with the Cleveland Indians’ organization while playing football for the Cards. Brohm began his NFL career in 1994 with the San Diego Chargers, who played in Super Bowl XXIX. He played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1995-97, where he was the backup quarterback to Hall of Famer Steve Young in 1997. From 1998-2000, Brohm played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Denver Broncos and the Cleveland Browns. In 2001, he played in the XFL for the Orlando Rage and was named first team All-XFL as he owned the league’s highest QB rating at 99.9.
Brohm received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Louisville in 1994. He and his wife, Jennifer, have a son, Brady, and daughter, Brooke.
