WKU Head Coach Clark-Heard
On the slow start and how defense allowed the team to overcome the slow start...
"It was a very slow start. I think it's the sign of a growing team. You have to continue to be prepared and be ready to play each and every day no matter when it is and what time it is. We came out of the locker room flat and they were out hustling us, they were getting loose balls, and they were doing a lot of things. At halftime, we addressed those things and I was super, super proud of the way we came out in the second half. We picked up our defense and we were able to get a couple of stops in a row. As a coach, I think that's how you have to look at things for a win. I feel like we got better in the second half defensively and we just have to keep improving."
On bench play...
"We're seven games into the season. What we're trying to do is get continuity, where we can figure out game situations and game plans where we can do the things we need to. The things for us, we're trying to keep getting better defensively, because as today showed, that's going to help us win some ballgames."
On adjusting to the foul calls...
"I think the hardest thing for them to get adjusted to is the hand check. We have to continue to keep working on it. Keep preaching to them in practice. We try to put them through game situations in practice so they'll understand and they won't get frustrated. They'll understand that that's how the game is going to be called. It is what it is. We have to sit down and be able to guard, do the things fundamentally that we need to so they don't end up on the foul throw line."
On making 18 of 22 free throws...
"It was refreshing. That's one thing we've really been focusing on. I've really been trying to get the girls to focus on that and get back to that, because that's what helped us last year and that's what won us a lot of ball games last year. We want to continue to keep getting better."
