NEW ORLEANS - Seniors Melanie Stutsman and Ashley Potts earned weekly honors from the Sun Belt Conference, the league announced Tuesday, as Stutsman was named Setter of the Week and Potts named Defensive Player of the Week.
Stutsman won her fourth-consecutive Setter of the Week award and fifth this season after she averaged 13 assists per set after totaling 117 assists in three games. She set WKU to a .371 hitting percentage, as she had four teammates hitting over .330, including two over .500, and the team hit no less than .320 in each of the three games. She leads all players in conference play with 13.27 assists per set. She added 39 assists at Georgia State and 32 against Texas State. In the sweep of UT Arlington to close the weekend, Stutsman averaged over 15 assists per set. In the three matches, she also posted 14 kills to hit .289 and was second on the team with 23 digs while adding three blocks at the net.
Potts earned her second Defensive Player of the Week award this season and eighth in her career after she played a major role to keep the Lady Toppers with an unblemished record in conference play. She posted a team-high 5.78 digs per set and helped hold last week's opponents to a .167 hitting percentage, as the team averaged 15.44 digs per set. Potts leads the conference in digs per set in overall and conference stats. She had six digs per set at Georgia State while adding 14 total digs in a sweep of Texas State. She recorded her fourth 20-plus dig performance this season with 20 versus UT Arlington. She also added four service aces against the trio of opponents.
WKU hosts its annual "Dig 4 Pink" match on Friday, October 11 against ULM at 7 p.m. Fans wearing pink will get in free while the first 250 fans will receive a pink rally towel. The Lady Toppers then travel to Louisiana-Lafayette for a Sunday contest at noon.
