WKU Head Coach Bobby Petrino
Opening Statement
"I told our players to make sure they keep their heads up. They had a good week of practice and they prepared very hard. They went and practiced hard. They came out tonight and competed extremely hard. We just came up a little bit short. There's one play here, one play there all throughout the game that could have been the difference in us winning or losing. They have to make sure they keep their heads up and come back to work on Monday and stick together as a team. They did go out there tonight and do a really good job of competing as a team."
On starting Fishback but then going with Doughty...
"I thought Nelson (Fishback) came out and moved us around a bit and got us a field goal but made some mistakes. The way they were playing, they were going to load the box so we were going to need to throw the ball down the field a little bit and we felt like Brandon (Doughty) gave us the best opportunity to do that."
On defense in the 1st half vs. the 2nd half...
"They made their plays. They ran those same plays in the first half and either we made a play on the ball or he (Corey Robinson) overthrew a couple of them. But in the second half, they hit the plays. Our defense did enough to give us the opportunity to win the game in the end, but we just didn't do it."
On having trouble in the second half of games this season...
"I don't know. The games we've won, we've came out and won the game in the second half, but here in the last two, we haven't been able to get it done. We have to be able to handle the pressure and execute. We are young in certain areas, particularly in throwing the ball and making the plays at the end. They're an experienced team. He (Corey Robinson) is a very, very good quarterback and he knows how to make plays and throw the ball around and he made more plays than we did."
On turnovers tonight...
"They really hurt. The first one, we're down in scoring position and we gave up a pass rush where the guy came in and hit the quarterback as he was trying to deliver the ball. The second one, we moved the ball off of our 5-yard line and I felt good. I felt like we were starting to control the line of scrimmage and we were running the ball well and the ball goes right through his hands and hits him in the facemask. Those were difficult turnovers and they really hurt us."
On the team getting dejected from two home losses...
"They're tough. That's a tough one there but you have to just build on what they did. They practiced hard, prepared real well, and they came out and competed. That's what this games all about. You come out each Saturday and have an opportunity to compete and get better and find a way to win a game. We're just going to stick together and keep working and kepe battling for our seniors."
On Brandon Doughty's play today...
"I thought he did some good things. He threw the ball around but we didn't get the ball in the end zone enough. That's the thing. When we get down in the critical area, we had some opportunities to score touchdowns. It seems like every time we get down inside the twenty, we don't make plays and have to settle for a field goal. That's what kills you. You have all kinds of yards and you move the ball, but you have to score touchdowns when you get down in the red zone. Right now we're not physical enough knock people off the ball and run it in, and we're not able to make the plays in the passing game in the red zone.
On the 4th and 1 play call from last week effecting this week's play call...
"Not at all. I have all the confidence in the world giving the ball to Antonio (Andrews) and he wanted the ball. We thought we had a good play. I was watching the blocking and I thought we had a good chance to break it for a touchdown. I didn't see if he tripped, or slipped, or whatever."
Cam Clemmons, RJr., OL, Mt. Juliet, Tenn.
On being outscored in the second half...
"They just made more plays than we did. They just came out and executed their plays. Props to Troy. They came out and made more plays than we did."
Arius Wright, Sr., DB, Duluth, Ga.
On if he feels Robinson played different in the second half than the first half...
"No, not really. It kind of goes back to they completed more balls and made more plays than we did. For us to get them out of drives, they just completed more plays."
On the team's morale after the loss...
"A loss like this, it hurts. We all know that it hurts. At the same time, we have to buck up and get ready for Georgia State."
