After battling the elements on the first official day of practice on Friday, the Hilltoppers were finally able to get outdoors for a pair of intrasquad scrimmages over the weekend at Nick Denes Field on Saturday and Sunday.
WKU head coach Matt Myers was so impressed with his team’s performance over the weekend that he had trouble remembering two better scrimmages to open up a spring season.
“I told our guys yesterday that that was one of the best first and second scrimmages that I have ever been around,” Myers said. “We did so many good things. I credited them for their hard work in the fall, going home during the break and coming back in just as good of shape and doing what they were supposed to do. We didn’t have to go backwards to go forwards.
“We threw six really good arms out there and I thought we were very competitive at the plate. I saw some really good things. We had two or three innings where we extended the inning with two-out walks or two-out hits. I was also really pleased on the mound. The arms are in great shape and the velocity is much higher than I thought it would be at this time of the year.”
The Hilltoppers are now set for their first official full week of practice this week, with first pitch less than three weeks away. Below you can find a content calendar for some upcoming features and videos previewing the 2013 WKU baseball season over the next two weeks.
