Wessel, a redshirt-junior outside-hitter, led the Lady Toppers at the WKU Tournament with a .414 hitting percentage over four games and was second on the team with seven blocks. Named to the WKU All-Tournament Team, she posted 12 kills in the Lady Toppers' 3-1 win over No. 10 Dayton and collected a career-high five blocks against IUPUI. She is currently hitting over .300 in nine games this season. Wessel leads the conference in hitting percentage this season with a .368 clip and ranks second on team with 97 kills overall.
The Louisville, Ky., native was key in helping the Lady Toppers upset No. 10 Dayton on Friday, as she registered a .429 hitting percentage on 21 attacks, which helped the team hit at a .319 mark. It was the first ranked opponent that WKU has defeated since 2004, and the victory also extended WKU's win streak to eight matches.
Wessel and the Lady Toppers will take their 9-3 season record into a home match against Lipscomb on Tuesday, September 11 at 7 p.m. CT at E.A. Diddle Arena before hitting the road for the Coke/Michigan Invitational this weekend to face Duke, Michigan and Eastern Michigan in the team's final regular season tournament.
