Are you ready for some football? WKU Athletics counts you down to opening day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on September 1, 2012 with the 50-day “Countdown to Kickoff” series on WKUSports.com. Each day will be accompanied by a significant number in WKU football history.
32 Conference Games to be Complete by End of 2012
Since becoming a full-fledged member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2009, the Hilltoppers have played a full Sun Belt Conference schedule that includes eight conference games per year.
At the conclusion of the 2012 season, WKU will have played 32 conference games over the four-year period since moving up to the FBS level. The Hilltoppers went 7-1 in league games in 2011, helping WKU become bowl-eligible for the first since making the jump.
Despite losing its conference opener to Arkansas State in 2011, WKU rallied to win each of its seven conference games, finishing second overall in the league behind Arkansas State. The five-win conference turnaround from 2010 to 2011 was the biggest turnaround in Sun Belt Conference history.
WKU will enter conference play in 2012 on a seven-game conference winning streak when the Hilltoppers travel to take on Arkansas State on Saturday, September 29.
