Are you ready for some football? WKU Athletics counts you down to opening day at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium on September 1, 2012 with the 50-day “Countdown to Kickoff” series on WKUSports.com. Each day will be accompanied by a significant number in WKU football history.
TAGGART'S 47 CAREER RUSHING TOUCHDOWNS BREAK 20-YEAR RECORD
Not often do you turn to the records section of a program’s media guide and see a quarterback’s name etched in almost every rushing category. At WKU, however, that would be the case.
Former Hilltopper quarterback and current WKU head coach Willie Taggart epitomized the notion of the running quarterback, setting WKU records in career rushing plays, net rushing yards, rushing touchdowns and most 150-yard rushing games at the end of his career. Today, two of those career rushing records still stand, including the 47 rushing touchdowns over his four-year career.
The 47 rushing touchdowns are ahead of both Leron Moore and the program’s all-time leading rusher, Bobby Rainey. Taggart’s touchdown mark shattered the previous record of 37 rushing touchdowns set back in 1973 by Clarence Jackson, who scored 37 touchdowns over his career.

The Hilltoppers open the 2012 season against Austin Peay, with kickoff slated for 6:00 PM on September 1 in Bowling Green. For season and single game ticket information, visit HERE.
