Senior Tight End Jack Doyle
(on preparing for his final home game)
“It is definitely weird. Kenny and I were just sitting over there talking, and you just think that you just got here and it flies by. We are just trying to enjoy it. I know the young guys are trying to enjoy their seniors, I know that is what Coach Taggart has been preaching. I’m just trying to enjoy the little things and the ins-and-outs of football.”
(on the offensive performance against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday)
“We ran the ball a little bit better, but there are always things that you can improve on, and we see that. Obviously we didn’t take care of our business at the end there, but it is something to build off of. I know the o-line, they played real well from what I could see, so it is definitely something we can build on, but we have things we still need to work on.”
(on junior running back Antonio Andrews and his performance on Saturday)
“He’s the man. We give him the ball all sorts of ways and it doesn’t seem like he gets tired. I’m trying to run over there and help him up because I know that he has to be exhausted when he has like 37 carries and he’s doing kick returns and punt returns. He does it all. He’s Mr. Everything. I’m proud of him. He’s a great guy. He’s my locker buddy in that he’s right beside me in the locker room. He’s the man. I’m really proud of him.”
(on Antonio Andrews picking up right where Bobby Rainey left off last season)
“I feel like a lot of the credit goes to the offensive line. They take a lot of pride, and no matter who is back there, they are going to take care of their job and give him room to run. With Antonio, it doesn’t take one guy to take him down he’s so slippery. I’m just so proud of him. I knew he would do an awesome job because I have seen him in practice and heard stories about him in high school. I’m really proud of him.”
(on senior quarterback Kawaun Jakes)
“I’ve been blessed to have the same quarterback for four years. That is definitely a key to our chemistry building. He’s one of my best friends, and we have built that relationship over the past four years. I have had a lot of fun playing with him. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever been around and definitely one of the toughest kids I have ever been around. He’s just another person and another friend that I’m proud of. It’s kind of bittersweet, mixed emotions with senior day coming this weekend.”
Senior Defensive Tackle Kenny Martin
(on playing his final home game on Saturday)
“Actually it is a lot of mixed emotions. I’m excited that I get to play my last game in this stadium. My mom gets to see me for the first time actually playing in the stadium, so it is going to be a good little week and finally get to enjoy it. It has been a long five years, and it comes to an end this week.”
(on his greatest memories at WKU)
“Coming together. This team has been through a lot of ups and downs. We had a lot of downs, but throughout those tough trials and tribulations, we always came together and to be honest, it might sound cliché, but it is really a family. Anybody has a problem, we come talk to each other. We built a big chemistry and built a bond for years. When I come back for homecoming next year or years later, we are still going to have that connection and still keep in contact with each other. That is that family bond that we have built over the years.”
(on getting the chance to win a seventh game and secure a winning season)
“We went through the 0-12 season, and last year and this year we had the taste of the success that actually getting the chance to win taste good. You play this game to win, but it feels good.”
(on the seniors along the defensive line)
“We are in contact every day even on our off days. We watch film together, go out to eat all the time, talk, text message—it is going to be a big bond. In the film room, sometimes we get off topic and start laughing and what not, but it is what it is. We’re a big family, nothing but a brotherhood.”
(on North Texas)
“North Texas is a good team. They run the same offense that we pretty much run, which is power. In other words, this week we are going to have to grind it out in practice.”
(on the pressure to finish off with a win)
“There isn’t any pressure. We just want to make sure we finish the season off right, and send us seniors off with a win. There isn’t pressure in that we have to do this or we have to do that. Of course we have to get better.”
