WKU senior offensive lineman Adam Smith
(on the team getting back to playing physical football)
“I don’t know exactly what it was why we weren’t playing as physical as the beginning of the year, but I know that is something we have to get back to. I know we did a little bit last week, but it wasn’t good enough. That is definitely going to be one of our main focus points throughout practice this week and next week, the last week of the season, getting back to where we were at the beginning of the year.”
(on the mood of the team after the loss to Florida Atlantic)
“The mood is never good after a loss. You play the game to win. At the same time, we realize that Coach Taggart has the 24-hour rule, and we realize that we have to move on to the next team and get ready to play them because if we don’t, we will get beat again. We have to prepare like champions and like winners and get ready to play Lafayette this weekend.”
(on what the challenge of facing Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday on the road)
“We haven’t had a chance to watch a whole lot of film on them yet, but they played Florida tough and they are a good football team. The past two years we played pretty well against them, and if we prepare right this week, I think we will have a pretty good shot to play well against them again.”
(on if the team became complacent after the fast start to the season)
“I think it comes back to the little things. We were 5-1, and everybody was riding high and in a great mood. I don’t know if complacent is the right word, but we kind of let the little things slip out from under us, and like Kareem [Peterson] said, we have to get back to doing those things right and play like we have something to prove because we definitely have something to prove now.”
WKU senior defensive back Kareem Peterson
(on what happened over the last two games)
“I think we played down to our competition. Obviously our defense played way better at the beginning of the season when we were going up against stronger teams. We came out expecting these teams not to hit us as hard as they did and we seemed to not have the answer.”
(on the difficulty of playing on the road after a tough loss on Saturday)
“I really don’t think of it as away or home. I think it is just focus. We have to get back to playing like we were and with something to prove. We definitely have something to prove this Saturday.”
(on the importance of the last two games of the season)
“This one Saturday is the most important one, but they are real important. We have to knock these out in order to get to a bowl, so they definitely are important.”
