Monday Press Conference Quotes
Head coach Willie Taggart
(On the players feeling as if the defense has not played as well as it is capable)
“I agree. They scored six points. They shouldn’t have scored anything. I thought our defense did play well. They bent, but didn’t break. That has kind of been our theme throughout the year. I think it is always good when your defense can hold a team to six points and not allow a touchdown. Our guys know they could have played better. That is the beauty of football and the beauty of having another opportunity next week”
(On playing against dual-threat quarterback)
“I think our guys are well trained for it now. It really doesn’t matter. They have seen it all year long. There are no excuses for not stopping it now. They have seen it and have been trained. They just have to execute and do their assignment.”
(On the short week with the Thursday game)
"Last week, we had to stay a little later because of the short week this week. Usually the day after, we practice and get some corrections from the week before. We were not able to do that as much this week. We had to jump right into Middle Tennessee. We used Sunday as a Tuesday practice and today will be a Wednesday practice for us."
(On WKU defensive end Quanterus Smith's five-sack performance)
"It was very impressive. It doesn’t happen everyday in college football. It is good for him to be able to do that. He has been working his tail off and he is starting to reap the benefits of working hard. We challenged him to come out and play better than he did against Louisiana-Monroe. He did that for our football team. He was vocal, talking to the defense and he was ready to play."
(On the defensive line being the difference in the game)
“No doubt. They got them out of rhythm. Our secondary did a great job. A lot of those were coverage sacks. They did a great job of covering their receivers. Our defensive line has been playing great all year long. They have been playing since they were puppies. They are full grown dogs right now, barking and helping our football team."
(On being on national television at home)
"It will be fun. Anytime you can get on national television and do it at home is always exciting. We want to make sure it is packed. We don’t want to be embarrassed here in Bowling Green, Ky."
