BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - When Perfect Game USA released its list of the Top 300 Major League Baseball Draft prospects for the 2012 and 2013 drafts earlier this week, Western Kentucky University junior left-hander Tanner Perkins and sophomore right-hander Justin Hageman were among those recognized.
Perkins was listed as the No. 253rd prospect for this year's MLB First-Year Player Draft while Hageman was named the 196th rated prospect among those eligible for the 2013 draft.
Both Perkins and Hageman are expected to be 1-2 in the Hilltoppers' weekend rotation this season after each posted stellar numbers in 2011.
Perkins was named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference after finishing his second season on the Hill with a 7-4 record and a league-best 2.32 ERA. He ranked among the top 10 in the league in innings pitched (99.0), strikeouts (75), wins (7) and opponent batting average (.243). Hageman was named the Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year after finishing the season with an 8-5 record. He also ranked among the top 10 in the league in ERA (3.22), wins (8), innings pitched (100.2), strikeouts (85) and opponent batting average (.256). Hageman threw his second complete game of the year against FAU, his eighth win of the year, on his way to becoming WKU's winningest freshman pitcher.
WKU begins to 2012 season Feb. 17 when it hosts Toledo for a three-game weekend series at Nick Denes Field.
