BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Western Kentucky University defensive specialist Ashley Potts has been recognized by the Sun Belt Conference as the Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
The honor is the second of the season for a Lady Topper and the first of her career for Potts. WKU went 2-1 over the weekend with wins over Virginia Tech and Ohio University at the Kentucky Classic in Lexington, Ky.
Potts, who started all three matches at the libero position, finished the weekend with 50 digs, an average of five per set. Against in-state rival Kentucky, she tallied 16 digs and closed out the weekend with a 22-dig performance against Ohio.
The Louisville, Ky., native was also named to the Kentucky Classic All-Tournament team as she improved her season average to a league-best 5.35 digs per set. She leads the team with 107 digs in six matches this season.
WKU (5-1) returns to action Tuesday night when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Lipscomb. The Lady Toppers then open their home schedule when they host the WKU Tournament, featuring teams from Xavier, Wake Forest and LSU.
